Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior political figure commented the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
