Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an better service.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
